In Nanning, Guangxi, a magnificent bridge spans the Yong River, and it is the Nanning Bridge. Recently, this bridge stood out and was awarded the MUSE Award for its outstanding design concept and advanced construction technology.
The Nanning Bridge consists of a main bridge, approach bridges on both sides of the east and west banks, and interchange ramps. When viewed from an oblique side, it resembles the wings of a butterfly, displaying a unique beauty. The main bridge adopts an asymmetric ribbed arch bridge design with a span of 300 meters, and the bridge deck is equipped with six lanes in both directions. It is an important passage for the southeast area of Nanning to enter the city and the expressway. The bridge adopts a steel box girder structure.
Guosheng Chen, the General Manager of Zhiyuntuo, had participated in the construction of the bridge. In order to balance the aesthetic function and structural stability of the Nanning Bridge, he led the construction team to fully utilize 3D Construction Visualization Technology, presenting the bridge's renovation plan in the form of a 3D model. Through 3D modeling and real-time data integration, the construction progress, resource allocation, and safety status were dynamically displayed, enhancing project management transparency, improving construction efficiency and safety, and ultimately building the world's first large-span, curved beam, asymmetric outward leaning arch bridge.
However, due to years of work, under high traffic flow conditions, the bridge deck experiences significant bending, tension, shear, and temperature changes, resulting in cracks, ruts, displacement, delamination, and bulges. In this context, Guosheng Chen led the construction team of Guangxi Zhiyuntuo Construction Engineering Co., Ltd. to adopt multiple advanced technical methods to repair the bridge deck pavement of Nanning Bridge.
In response to the characteristics of the bridge, Guosheng Chen led a team to create an intelligent collaborative management method based on 3D Modeling Technology. He achieved intuitive display and comprehensive monitoring of project progress by combining construction progress information with 3D modeling. Through this module, every link from the formulation of the construction plan to the on-site construction has realized the real-time data collection and analysis, and realized the comprehensive monitoring and management of the construction process. Through intelligent means, the construction team can promptly identify and solve problems during construction, ensuring the quality and progress of the construction. At the same time, the intelligent construction comprehensive management collaboration module also promotes information sharing and collaborative work among team members, improving the management level and decision-making ability of the entire project.
Nanning Bridge is also a representative work of green construction and green engineering. During the construction process, Guosheng Chen's team actively adopted environmentally friendly materials and technologies, optimized construction processes and procedures, and reduced noise and dust pollution during the construction process. At the same time, the construction team used graphene composite rubber modified asphalt technology for paving for the first time in the world. The material made of graphene is both the thinnest and strongest material, with a fracture strength 200 times higher than the best steel. At the same time, it has good elasticity and can stretch up to 20% of its own size. The use of this material reduces material consumption and carbon emissions, greatly improves the stability of road and bridge structures, extends their lifespan by 20 years, and makes a positive contribution to sustainable development.
Guosheng Chen stated that the Nanning Bridge is a perfect fusion of technology and art. The success of Nanning Bridge not only demonstrates the advanced level of bridge construction in China, but also showcases China's innovation and breakthroughs in bridge construction technology to the world. Through this project, the Chinese bridge construction team has not only accumulated rich construction experience and technical reserves, but also provided valuable reference and guidance for future bridge construction.
